De Koude Oorlog is in volle gang. Buck, Sonny en Tumbler voeren een operatie uit voor de CIA, achter het IJzeren Gordijn. Na een noodlanding met hun heli moeten ze terug naar het westen zien te geraken. Een microfilm die een verschrikkelijk geheim bevat, gooit hun plannen overhoop. De wegen van onze helden scheiden: Buck trekt verder oostwaarts op zoek naar een mysterieuze Sovjetbasis, terwijl Sonny en Tumbler op hun beurt proberen het hoofdkwartier te waarschuwen voor het nakende gevaar. Buck, Sonny en Tumbler zijn niet meer dan pionnen op een schaakbord waar hoog spel wordt gespeeld, door de CIA, de Stasi, de KGB en… Lady X!
